Batik is a wax resist technique created by applying wax to the surface of the fabric and then applying dye.  The dye and wax can be applied in many layers to achieve value, shading and textures.  Students used tjanting tools and brushes to apply the wax.  Once the surface is covered with the wax it was then removed with irons and newspaper.
