I’ve recently been doing a lot of reading and inquiring into the Design Thinking process. In previous years I have had students building with cardboard and other materials usually recyclables. My grade 7s designed their future homes one year and incorporated floor plans and facade as part of their presentation.
Some other design projects have been creating a solar lantern with kits provided by QSTech Shams Generation as well as fashion design and theater props.
Recently, in my dive into the flipped classroom approach with G3 students, I created a playlist of videos I found on YouTube which I set up with a QR Code and had them come up with designs for a fairytale character. We talked about how in the design process we have to consider both the function as well as the form. They have really taken off with it. I’ll update later!
