I believe that the first book I ever made was in grade 3, it was covered in metallic red paper and was a book of poetry and short stories that I had either copied or written. I think it is still in the collection of papers and drawings that I keep somewhere. While attending University of South Carolina for my degree in Art Education, one of my professors, Cynthia Colbert, had a love for handmade books. I quickly fell in love with it too. This mixed media allowed me to showcase all of the things I was learning in printmaking, sculpture, design, painting, and drawing. It’s a beautiful medium and I was fortunate to even teach a class on it at VCUQatar. There is something very meditative about folding the papers and creating the housing for the things you love.
